Well...

Say hello to my new baby, an Alvarez AF60CK (if that doesn't mean anything to you, just look at the link). I've just bought it brand new, for $299, and it looks an awful lot better than the picture. it's been a long time coming.
Denton, Texas is amazing, and I'm making more friends than I've had in years. Already there's at least three or four serious projects in the works (a free jazz group, an afro-cuban percussion and trombone choir, my silly rock/punk/dance/etc project, and some less concrete things, not to mention my ever evolving solo project). There's everything you'd ever need, from artsy coffee shops (where I'm scheming to get some stuff up in the near future), to the 10 for $10 sales at the local Kroger (biscuits!), and it's all within easy biking distance.
I'm not ready to fill you in on all the rest yet, because i'm in the UNT library at a "research only" computer.
Rock and socks,
aaron

thanks again to michael tencer for the image...

My friend michael tencer emails me pictures like these.
They make me uncomfortable and not know what to say.

when i lived near the Myrtle-Willoughby G train in Brooklyn, I really liked this graffiti mural not only because it featured an instrument I'm enamored with (congas, though I'm really growing to appreciate turntables as well), but also because it was an incredible statement of continuity between old school cuba and avirex brooklyn.
It was incredibly dark, so I've had to invert the colors...sorry

speaking of HIP ART LINKS!, there you go. (And don't forget about wooster collective!)

GuardRobo=Biiiizness!

(courtesy of my brother, Jesse, from somewhere)
So I've been digging through some old records, and I came across this gem, a 1972 Monty Python record called "Monty Python's Previous Record". Here's a link to the first bit off the second side, Radio Quiz show (sorry sometimes the channels are messed up, but I'd still say it's well worth your time).

I've also started writing a big fat afro-cuban percussion primer, because it's helped me clarify my own understanding, and it'll probably be posted in some time, if that kind of thing is interesting for you.

I've previously gone into a rant about sharing music here, but upon editing and updating some links in this post, I realize I'd rather not get into that.
Keep well, and enjoy

Get Your Beard On, Weirdo!

This is from www.worldbeardchampionships.com
(which I highly recommend)

HEY

I've decided my life is slipping away (gasp!) undocumented, so it's time for me to get my shit together and keep track of what's going on. This will help me not make idiotic mistakes twice. It's kind of like a journal for me, but you can look too, and that serves as my motivation to keep it fresh. Dig? Fresh.
I've been making lists of word pairings and sentences (Horse clods; curious about sandwiches; meanwhile, at the plastic house...) in order to keep track of what my incredible brain is pumping out and slapping together meaninglessly as the days go along. (Brain, you're so meaningless!)
I've had some interesting ones in the past, and they've slipped away, so I've made a commitment to change that, just for kicks.
Maybe one day they'll all be on one of my imaginary fliers (if I had a scanner, that would be a link, and you'd be able to look at one). I've been always thinking of ideas to put on fliers, whether just little phrases (6 bands, six bones, zero pennies, tons of fun!) or fictitious bands (Plastic Animal Explosion! (from Japan!, it says).

My empire begins softly.
I'm working on myself constantly, mentally and physically.
I'm happy as a clam in shit, and I'm only aiming for more contentment
